Is there a fee to use the driving school car for my road test?

We do lend our driving school car for any services. 

Do you offer home pick-up and drop-off?

Currently we do not offer home pick-up and drop-off. Everyone must pick-up and drop-off at Room 208 the Old Taylor High building at 410 W. 7th St, Taylor TX 76574. Arrive at the East entrance by the Taylor Library parking lot.

Do you offer Third-Party-Skills Road Test?

At this time, we do not offer the Third-Party-Skills Road Test. 

 

Coming soon in the near future! We wish you the best of luck on your Road Test with another approved driving school or the DPS office. 

General - Behind the Wheel

Will there be other students in the car with me?

Adults - No additional driver will be in the vehicle.

Teens-Yes, we may have an additional student driver scheduled at the same time. You must drive for 1 hour and observe the next hour to meet your 14-hour behind-the-wheel requirements.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my driving lesson?

Should you need to reschedule a lesson, you may do so by logging into your account on our website. You must cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a $35 late cancellation

Can I use my own car?

No, our vehicles have safety features (passenger brake, passenger mirror, student driver signs, etc.) that don't come in standard cars.

How do I schedule a behind-the-wheel lesson?

Log in to your student account on our website. Choose an available date and time.

How fast can I complete behind-the-wheel lessons?

This depends on your scheduling flexibility and instructor availability. You can schedule up to one 2-hour behind-the-wheel lesson each week and schedule up to three driving lessons in advance.

You must have one practice day between lessons. If you have a no-show fee applied to your account, it will need to be paid prior to scheduling another driving lesson.

Do I need a temporary license to start driver's ed?

If you are 18 or older, you'll need a valid, unexpired learner or driver's license to start driving lessons.

If you are under 18 and have taken the driver education class, you'll need a valid, unexpired learner permit to start driving lessons. 

Do you charge a cancellation fee?

If you fail to show up for a lesson or do not cancel or reschedule on our website at least 24 hours in advance, you will be charged a $35 late cancellation fee.

General -Classroom

How long does it take to complete the class?

Adult 6-hour class can take one full day or two three hour days.

Teen 24-hour classroom instruction depending on if you are enrolled in the weekday or weekend; it can take 6 days to 12 days to complete your classroom instruction.

Missing class can delay completing your course in a timely manner.

What happens after I complete the class?

When you finish your 24 hour classroom instruction, make an appointment to get your permit (if you didn't already), you will work on completing your 14-hours behind the wheel and begin your 30 hours behind the wheel parent log.

What is the classroom conduct rules?

A student or prospective student may be dismissed or barred from the school for tardiness; drunkenness or obvious signs of drug use; rude, vulgar or disruptive behavior; smoking or using tobacco products; using a cell phone during class or in the car; or being otherwise inattentive (sleeping, texting, reading, etc.).  Students terminated for violating rules of conduct may be readmitted at the discretion of the school director. 

Do I need a permit to start classes?

No permit is required to take the driver's ed class. The student must be at least 14 years old by the first day of class.

If you enroll in behind-the-wheel only, you must have a valid, unexpired permit. You will upload it into your account portal.

What is the Grading Policy?

Progress standards must meet the requirements of the current rules adopted by the commissioner of education. Mastery is a prerequisite to awarding a grade of 70 or above. Evidence of mastery shall determine by one or more of the following methods:

Unit tests/ Written Assignments/Skills performance checklist/Comprehensive examinations of of knowledge and skills

What is the attendance policy?

A full hour of absence is charged to the student when he/she does not attend the full 55 minutes of instruction during a 60-minute period. The student must assume responsibility to make up any time missed.

 

Who can enroll in the Teen Driver's ED Course?

Teens between the age of 14-17 years old can enroll.

If you are 14 years old, you will have to wait till you are 15 years of age to get your permit. 

If you are turning 18 and are enrolled in the Teen program, you will still need to complete the teen course (24 classroom hours/14 hours behind-the-wheel and 30 hours of driving with parents). 

Requirements of Course: 24 of classroom instructions, 14-hours behind-the-wheel lessons. 7-hours of behind-the-wheel training and 7-hours observing. You will also need to pass the written road rules and road signs test with a 70 or above.

Who can enroll in the Adult Driver's ED course?

You must be 18 years of age and older.

You are required to complete 6-hours of classroom instructions by an approved Driver's ED School or an approved online Driver's ED Course.

If you are 18 and enrolled in the Teen Driver's ED Course you will need to complete all requirements listed under Teen Driver's ED.

What if I forgot my username or password?

You can reset your username or password on our website by clicking the "Forgot your Username or Password?" link on the login page.

Are your instructors licensed?

Yes, each of our instructors is licensed by the State of Texas, completed background checks to meet TDLR requirements to teach classroom and behind-the-wheel training to all age groups.

 

What is your refund policy with credit card?

While we avoid taking credit cards, we do not refund the 3.6% charged for using a credit card. 

 

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, Venmo and Cash App. Credit cards are subject to a 3.6% fee (non-refundable). 

How old do I need to be to start driver's ed?

Teen drivers education requires you be at least 14 years of age. 

Adult drivers education is 18-25 years of age. If you are older than 25, you can still enroll in our adult drivers ed.

What safety equipment are your cars equipped with?

Our vehicles have safety features (passenger brake, passenger mirror, student driver signs, etc.) that don't come in standard cars.

However, it is still the responsibility of the student in the driver seat to control steering, acceleration and braking to the best of their ability during their lessons.

Does DPS offer a car to use at the Road Test?

No. DPS does not provide a car for you to use. 

We advise practicing for your road test in the vehicle you plan to use during the test or for daily use. 

What is your enrollment cancellation Policy?

A full refund of all money paid by the student/guardian must be given if:

The student cancels the enrollment contract before midnight of the third day (72 hours) after the date the student signed the enrollment contract.

A student provides proof that enrollment was due to misrepresentation in advertising or promotional materials of the school or course provider or due to misrepresentation made by an owner or employee of the school or course provider.

A student is not eligible for a full refund if the student successfully completes the course or receives a failing grade on the comprehensive course examination.

If tuition is collected in advance of enrollment and, if after the expiration of the third-day cancellation policy, the student does not enter the school, terminates enrollment, or withdraws, the school may retain up to $50.00 as administrative expenses and, from the remainder, shall refund that portion of the classroom and in-car tuition and fees for services not received.

Who and when does the Texas Impact have to be completed?

Teens are required to complete the 2 hours Teen Texas Impact prior to their road test appointment. 

Adults are required to complete the 1-hour Adult Texas Impact prior to their road test appointment. 

You must register, complete the lesson and print your certificate. Be sure to sign your certificate and take with you to your "road test" appointment. Not to your permit appointment. 

The certificate does expire. If you take the course too early you will need to retake the course again.
